Compound Interest traces the arc of internet fraud from its almost-comedic origins to its current incarnation as a human rights crisis. The album opens in 1990s/2000s Lagos with Yahoo Boys hustling in cyber cafes, moves through the professionalization of romance scams, and descends into the horror of Southeast Asian trafficking compounds where both the scammer and the scammed are victims.

The tonal shift is deliberate. Audiences think they’re getting a dark comedy about Nigerian princes - and they are, for the first act. But the album pivots hard, pulling back the curtain on what “the game” became: forced labor, torture, and suicide on both ends of the con.

The gut-punch thesis: In 2024, the person stealing your grandmother’s retirement fund is also a trafficking victim being electrocuted for not meeting quota. There are no clean hands. There is no exit.

Structure:

Act 1: The Game (Tracks 1-4)

The 419 era. Yahoo Boys in Lagos, cyber cafes, the hustle. Tone is dark comedy - we’re laughing at both scammers and victims. Sakawa rituals introduce unease.

Act 2: The Pivot (Tracks 5-6)

Professionalization. Romance scams emerge. The stakes get higher, the comedy drains out. A victim falls in love with someone who doesn’t exist.

Act 3: The Compound (Tracks 7-12)

Southeast Asian trafficking compounds. Fake job ads become kidnapping. Torture becomes work incentive. The scammer is also a prisoner. An 82-year-old American victim takes his own life. No redemption, no escape - the system continues.

Themes:

  • Exploitation on both ends of the scam
  • Economic desperation as entry point to crime
  • The industrialization of fraud
  • Dual victimhood - scammer and scammed
  • Complicity and moral greyness
  • The unwinnable game

  3. MuguE

Retired from the plant after thirty-two years Pension ain’t shit, drowning in fears Then I got an email that changed my whole life A Nigerian prince, said he needs my advice Said he got millions locked up overseas Just need a partner with an account, if you please I did my research - seemed legit to me A small investment for a massive fee

I ain’t no moo-goo, I’m the smart one here Gonna flip this money, make it all clear Just one more payment, then I’m getting paid I ain’t no moo-goo, watch me make the grade I ain’t no fool

First wire was easy - just a thousand bucks Processing fee, gotta trust my luck Then came the taxes, then the lawyer’s cut Then the customs fee - man, what the fuck But I’m in too deep to walk away now Refinanced the house, don’t ask me how Wife thinks I’m crazy, kids won’t call But when that thirty million hits, I’ll show them all

I ain’t no moo-goo, I’m the smart one here Gonna flip this money, make it all clear Just one more payment, then I’m getting paid I ain’t no moo-goo, watch me make the grade I ain’t no fool

Eighty thousand deep, but who’s counting? The prince emails daily, keeps the faith mounting He calls me “dear partner,” treats me with respect Unlike my own family, always suspect Just one more wire, he swears it’s the last Gotta spend money to make money fast

Six months later, account’s bone dry Prince stopped writing, won’t tell me why Tried to file a police report, they laughed Said “you sent money to a stranger - do the math” Sitting in the dark ‘cause the power got cut Wife moved out, I’m living in a rut They took everything but they couldn’t take this: I almost was rich, man - I almost hit bliss

    I ain’t no moo-goo… I ain’t no… I ain’t…

    …I am…

  4. SakawaE

    Sika duro… sika duro…

Formats weren’t hitting like they used to do Cyber cafe brothers said they knew a dude Shrine priest in Kumasi, got the spiritual touch Pay him what he’s asking, he’ll give you the Midas clutch So I went at midnight, candles in a ring Sacrificed a chicken, heard the spirits sing He gave me a charm, said keep it on my skin Said the money’s gonna flow, but there’s rules to this thing

Sah-kah-wah, sah-kah-wah, this is Yahoo Plus Spiritual contract, you can trust Sah-kah-wah, sah-kah-wah, juju on the screen Money flowing in but what the fuck does it mean? The ritual, the ritual The price we pay for digital

Don’t sleep with the cash underneath your bed Don’t fuck your woman on the days he said Don’t eat certain foods, don’t speak certain names Don’t look in the mirror when you’re playing games First month - a hundred thousand, just like that Second month - two hundred, I’m getting fat Third month - the nightmares started creeping in Faces of the moo-goos asking where they’ve been

Priest says I need to level up the game Bigger sacrifice for bigger fame He’s talking things I don’t want to repeat Animals weren’t enough, now it’s getting deep Sika duro - money stay But at what cost, what do I pay? The man in the mirror doesn’t look like me Something else is staring back, hungry

My boys are dying young, heart attacks at twenty-five Crashed their Benzes, some took their own lives They say it’s the ritual catching up with us The spirits want their payment, no one to trust I stopped going to the shrine but the dreams don’t stop Moo-goo faces melting, screaming from the top Maybe I should give it back, break the deal But the priest said once you’re in, the contract’s sealed

    Sah-kah-wah… sah-kah-wah… Sika duro…

  5. FormatE

Upgraded from the cafe to the penthouse suite Different format now, corporate deceit BEC - that’s Business Email, Compromise Impersonate the CEO, watch the millions rise No more prince letters, that’s amateur hour Now I’m in the boardroom, tasting power One email redirect: “wire to this account” CFO complies - that’s a seven-figure amount

Format, format, I got formats for days Romance, corporate, real estate plays Format, format, switch the game up Run it up, run it up, came from nothing Thirty under thirty, now I’m under indictment Format, format, that’s the assignment

Gucci on my body, Maybach in the drive Instagram is popping, looking so alive Dubai penthouse views, champagne on ice But I check the exits every time - twice They call me Hush because I move in silence Network of boys committing digital violence We don’t use guns, we use social engineering Three million Tuesday, yeah the account’s clearing

Format, format, I got formats for days Romance, corporate, real estate plays Format, format, switch the game up Run it up, run it up, came from nothing Thirty under thirty, now I’m under indictment Format, format, that’s the assignment

Forbes put my face up, said I’m influential Called me an entrepreneur, how confidential But there’s a file in Virginia with my government name FBI watching every move in this game The flex is a trap, the lifestyle’s a lure The higher you climb, the harder the cure

Romance format hitting different nowadays Lonely hearts bleeding, that’s the perfect plays Build ’em up slow, three months minimum Crypto investment, take ’em to the premium They think it’s love, I think it’s revenue The photos aren’t me but the money’s true I got a hundred lovers who’ve never seen my face Each one thinks they’re special - what a fucking waste

    Format… format… Thirty under thirty… Now I’m under… Eleven years… Format…

  6. Lonely HeartsE

Met him on a Tuesday, just swiping through the pain Divorce papers fresh, thought I’d never love again His profile said widower, a doctor overseas Said I had kind eyes, brought me to my knees Three months of good mornings, three months of good nights Video wouldn’t work but his words felt right He remembered my birthday, my daughter’s name Made me feel like I was worth something again

Lonely hearts, that’s the target demographic Lonely hearts, make the love feel so graphic He said he loved me, said I was the one Now the money’s gone and so is everyone Lonely hearts club, where we pay for connection Lonely hearts club, just a format’s selection

First time he asked, said his wallet got stolen Foreign country, stranded, my heart was swollen Just a thousand dollars, I’d get it right back Soon as he landed, soon as he’s on track Then his mother got sick, needed surgery fast Then customs seized his luggage - how long could this last? Every time I questioned, he’d get so hurt Said “don’t you trust me?” and I’d feel like dirt

Lonely hearts, that’s the target demographic Lonely hearts, make the love feel so graphic He said he loved me, said I was the one Now the money’s gone and so is everyone Lonely hearts club, where we pay for connection Lonely hearts club, just a format’s selection

Sixty-three thousand before I woke up My girl found the receipts, that’s when I threw up They say I’m stupid - maybe that’s true But you never felt invisible the way I do The bank won’t help me, police don’t care “You sent it willingly, ma’am” - how’s that fair?

I still check his profile even though I know The photos were stolen from some dead CEO I still read the messages late at night Because even if fake, someone held me tight The worst part isn’t the retirement gone The worst part is being this fucking alone He gave me three months of feeling alive Now I’m just a number in the FBI files

Lonely hearts… He said he loved me… Maybe part of him did… No. No, he didn’t. I know. I know.

  7. Job PostingE

Job posting said three thousand a month Customer service role, exactly what I want Tech support for a trading company Accommodation included, fly out for free Economy’s been shit since COVID hit Degree in computer science, can’t land shit But this recruiter said they see potential in me Interview on Telegram - that should’ve been the key

Packing my bags, mama’s crying proud tears “My son’s going abroad,” conquering fears Bought a new shirt for my first day Everything’s gonna be okay

Job posting, job posting Looked so good on the screen Job posting, job posting Nothing’s ever what it seems They said opportunity I heard my dreams Job posting, job posting Now I know what recruitment means

Landed in Bangkok, connecting flight to where? They said Cambodia - wait, that wasn’t in there Van picked me up, windows tinted black Three hours driving, can’t see the way back Building looked like a factory, not an office space Security guards everywhere, every single face They took my passport: “just for processing” Took my phone too - “policy, no texting”

Something’s wrong, I can feel it now Gates are locked, guards watching how Asked about leaving, they just laughed This isn’t the job posting I had

Job posting, job posting Looked so good on the screen Job posting, job posting Nothing’s ever what it seems They said opportunity I heard my dreams Job posting, job posting Now I know what recruitment means

Fifteen hundred others in this building All of us answered a posting, willing Some were grabbed right off the street Sold between compounds like meat The guy next to me’s been here eight months Says you either produce or get the punishment Welcome to the industry they say Now sit down and start the play

They handed me a script and a list of names American numbers - this is the game “Make them trust you, make them invest” “Miss your quota and we’ll do the rest” I came here for customer service, that’s what I said Manager smiled: “You ARE the service - now get to bed” Door locked behind me, mattress on the floor This is my life now, this is the job I applied for

    Job posting… Three thousand a month… Opportunity… … They lied.

  8. KK Park

Six AM alarm, fluorescent lights never sleep Same breakfast every morning, rice and something cheap Line up for roll call, check the quota board Yesterday I hit my numbers, today I can’t afford Sit at desk fourteen, same desk every day Fire up the profiles, time to make them pay I got thirty active targets, all think they love me Script says call them honey, send a heart emoji

K.K. Park, K.K. Park Welcome to the factory after dark K.K. Park, K.K. Park Seventeen hours, leave your mark Type, type, type until your fingers break Smile in the photos for the money’s sake K.K. Park, K.K. Park We’re all just products in the park

New guy next to me still crying in his sleep Give it two weeks, that’s when the numbness creeps He asked me how to get out - I had to laugh There’s barbed wire on the walls, armed guards on the path Some tried to run, I watched them dragged back Beaten in the courtyard, bones that crack Now they’re examples: “This is what escape gets” So we type and we smile and we pay our debts

K.K. Park, K.K. Park Welcome to the factory after dark K.K. Park, K.K. Park Seventeen hours, leave your mark Type, type, type until your fingers break Smile in the photos for the money’s sake K.K. Park, K.K. Park We’re all just products in the park

My target today is a nurse from Ohio Single mom, two kids, she wants love so bad I’ll tell her I’m a engineer working overseas Build her up for months then bring her to her knees The script says this is phase two: investment pitch Crypto platform, guaranteed to make her rich She’ll wire her savings thinking it’s our future And I’ll hit my quota just to avoid the torture

Eight months in, I’ve stolen two million Seen twelve people sold and four gone civilian The ones who couldn’t take it, the ones who weren’t proud I don’t think about the faces anymore Just numbers on a screen, money through the door Sometimes I hear my mama’s voice in dreams She thinks I’m still in customer support, doing well it seems

K.K. Park… Desk fourteen… Tomorrow’s the same… And the day after… And the day after that… Welcome to the park.

  9. Electric

Missed my quota by twelve hundred dollars They called my name, nobody hollers Walk down the hallway, eyes on the ground Everyone’s typing, nobody makes a sound They know where I’m going, been there themselves The door at the end where the devil dwells Guard opens it up, fluorescent buzz This is what happens here, this is what it does

Electric, electric Feel it in my teeth, feel it in my spine Electric, electric This is how they keep us all in line Zap, zap, make me understand Quota’s not a goal, it’s a command Electric, electric Compliance through current - that’s the brand

Hands zip-tied, kneeling on concrete Supervisor asks if I think this is a retreat “You know the numbers, you know the rules” “Thought you were smart, turns out you’re a fool” Cattle prod presses against my ribs They don’t want excuses, they don’t want fibs Just the sound - that crackling hiss Then white light, then the abyss

Electric, electric Feel it in my teeth, feel it in my spine Electric, electric This is how they keep us all in line Zap, zap, make me understand Quota’s not a goal, it’s a command Electric, electric Compliance through current - that’s the brand

Three hours later I’m back at my desk Shaking so bad I can barely text But my fingers find the keys like they know the way Type “good morning beautiful” to a widow in LA The bruises don’t show in my profile pic The smile I send her makes her heart tick She has no idea what it cost to send This message that feels like love but isn’t

Some people break in there and never come back Shipped to another compound or thrown off the track I’ve seen them carried out, not moving, not breathing Nobody asks questions, everybody’s just seething But quiet - always quiet - that’s the rule Make noise, make problems, you’re the next fool So I hit my numbers now, every single day The room taught me well, I learned how to play

    Electric… Never forget the feeling… Compliance through current… I’m a good worker now. I’m a good worker now. I’m a good worker.

  10. PigE

Sha zhu pan - that’s what they call this Pig butchering, nothing hits but fist You’re the pig, I fatten you with love Three months of texts, sent from God above Except I’m not a god, I’m something worse I’m a prisoner too, living in this curse The photo on your screen isn’t me Some model I found, whoever they may be

I’m the knife, I’m the hand that holds it I’m the pig, they’re gonna slaughter both of us You think this is love, I think this is hell We’re both in the pen, can’t you tell? Fatten the pig, fatten the pig But look in the mirror - same fucking gig I’m the knife, I’m the hand that holds it I’m the pig, they’re gonna slaughter both of us

Her name is Margaret, she’s fifty-eight Retired teacher, says it must be fate That we found each other on that site I text her every morning, every night She sent me photos of her garden, her cat I saved them in a folder, imagine that The script says move to phase two now Investment opportunity - the sacred cow

She wired fifty thousand yesterday Said “for our future” - what the fuck do I say? The supervisor smiled, said “good work” While Margaret’s world is going berserk Part of me wanted to warn her, type the truth But the cattle prod’s waiting for the sleuth So I typed “thank you baby, love you more” And something in me died on that floor

Who’s the victim here? Both of us are She loses her savings, I lose who we are Margaret will recover, maybe, someday Get her kids’ help, find another way But I’ll be in this compound ’til I die Or ’til they sell me and I say goodbye The pig gets slaughtered either way it goes That’s the only truth this industry knows

Sha zhu pan… Sha zhu pan… She thinks I love her. I think I’m dying. We’re both right. We’re both wrong. We’re both pigs.

  11. Dennis

Dennis was eighty-two, lived alone since Marie passed Four years alone, each day just like the last His daughter calls on Sundays, grandkids once a year The house got so quiet he could hear his own fear Then someone reached out, said they saw his profile A younger woman, made him feel worthwhile He knew it was strange but he needed the light Someone to text good morning, someone to say goodnight

Dennis, Dennis, nobody saw you drowning Dennis, Dennis, in a house full of silence They took your money, they took your pride They took everything you had left inside And nobody believed you when you tried to explain So you carried the shame like you carried the pain Dennis… Dennis…

She said she loved him, said she needed help Crypto investment, he did it by himself Didn’t tell his daughter - she’d say he’s a fool Didn’t tell his son - he’d use it as a tool “Dad’s losing it, maybe time for a home” So he kept the secret, handled it alone Three hundred thousand - that’s what Marie left When the account hit zero, Dennis was bereft

Dennis, Dennis, nobody saw you drowning Dennis, Dennis, in a house full of silence They took your money, they took your pride They took everything you had left inside And nobody believed you when you tried to explain So you carried the shame like you carried the pain Dennis… Dennis…

He tried to tell his daughter. She said “Dad, how could you be so stupid?” He tried to file a report. They said “You sent the money willingly, sir.” He tried to call the number back. It was disconnected. He sat in that house with nothing but walls And the ghost of every message that made him feel less small.

The note he left was short, said “I’m sorry for the shame” “Thought I found someone real, turns out I was the game” “Don’t blame yourselves, I made the choice to send” “I just can’t face you knowing how it ends” His daughter found him Tuesday, hadn’t called since Sunday fight The argument about the money, said some things that weren’t right Now she lives with that forever, wishes she’d just listened Wishes she’d said “I love you Dad” before the silence christened

Dennis… eighty-two years old… Survived Core-e-uh, survived losing Marie… Didn’t survive a text message. Tuesday morning. She found him in his chair. Screen still glowing. He wasn’t there.

  12. No ExitE

Quota after quota, I’ve lost count of the faces American, British, Australian cases Each one a person, each one a name Each one convinced that I feel the same My hands are the weapon, my words are the blade But I’m just a tool in the trade they made If I stop typing, they’ll put me in the ground So I keep sending love that will never be found

Wire after wire, I’ve lost count of the transfers Each one a promise, each one that hurt worse “Just one more payment, then we’ll be together” “Just one more month, we’ll have forever” I know something’s wrong, I’m not that naive But believing the lie is easier to breathe If I stop sending, then it was all fake And I can’t afford another heartbreak

No exit, no exit We’re both in the same cell No exit, no exit This is a two-way hell You’re the pig, I’m the pig We’re all getting butchered You’re the blade, I’m the blade We’re all getting sutured Into a machine that doesn’t stop When one of us falls, another will crop No exit, no exit Welcome to the shop

I type “I love you” and I mean it and I don’t You read “I love you” and you believe it and you won’t We’re both holding onto something that isn’t there Both drowning in a digital nightmare The guard walks past, checks that I’m still working Your daughter calls, you hit decline, shirking We’re protecting the lie because the truth is worse Both trapped in the same fucking hearse

They’ll never rescue us. The U.N. writes reports. The FBI makes arrests. But the compound fills back up. And if you escape? Some have been charged for the crimes they were forced to commit. Victim becomes criminal. No exit either way.

They’ll never catch them. The bank says it’s my fault. The police say I sent it willingly. But my savings are gone. New schemes. New targets. New heartbreak. Same loneliness.

There’s a kid in Manila answering a job ad today There’s a widow in Texas swiping right, looking for a way In three months they’ll meet in a chat that isn’t real One will steal from the other, both will know how it feels To be trapped in a system that was built on our need Our loneliness, our desperation, our greed The scammer is a victim, the victim is the mark And somewhere an investor counts money in the dark

No exit, no exit We’re both in the same cell No exit, no exit This is a two-way hell You’re the pig, I’m the pig We’re all getting butchered You’re the blade, I’m the blade We’re all getting sutured Into a machine that doesn’t stop When one of us falls, another will crop No exit, no exit Forever and ever…

    Dear beloved… Good morning beautiful… Job posting, three thousand a month… I love you… Wire the funds to… I think I found the one… Help me… Quota… Please… Love… Money… Trapped… Trapped… Trapped…

    It’s still happening right now.
