Rise and Grind is a comedy album about the gospel of the grind — and about the platform that preaches it. One narrator — anonymous, because he is his personal brand — speaks 100% deadpan in fluent LinkedIn-voice across all ten tracks. He never once acknowledges he’s ridiculous.
The target is not one man. It’s the whole culture, because the whole culture is genuinely insane. The comedy engine is quotation, not exaggeration: the manager who fires someone and posts about how much it hurt him; the crying-founder selfie that does a million views; layoffs announced as a post at 8 AM because that’s when engagement peaks; funerals, divorces and diagnoses reprocessed into “five things this taught me about pipeline discipline”; broetry with its one. line. per. paragraph. and its needy “Agree?” You barely have to invent anything, and that’s the joke. The narrator is the camera; the feed is the subject.
It is clean by design — no profanity, no innuendo — and that costs it nothing. The absurdity of the source material is sharper than any swear, and the satire keeps every tooth: exploitation, neglect, and grief-as-content all land undiluted.
It’s a three-act character journey. He rises. He believes. He crashes. And in the final thirty seconds, for the first time, the bit drops — one honest, deadpan-sad admission that he has no idea who he is without the grind. Nine laughs, then the knife.
Sibling in spirit to the tech/professional-world comedy of Peer Reviewed and At Scale.
Structure:
Three acts, linear:
- Act I — The Conversion (1–3): A normal guy discovers the gospel and learns the language. Origin → first viral post → networking radicalization.
- Act II — The Ascension (4–7): Full guru. Thought-leader → toxic-positivity founder → algorithm-worshipper → apex delusion. This is where the album’s two biggest communal peaks live — the gospel-choir stomp anthem (05) and the revival-tent worship service (06).
- Act III — The Crash (8–10): Denial → the fall → the human button. Company fails and he spins it as a “pivot,” gets blocked and posts into the void, then the production strips to lonely piano for one honest verse.
The sonic arc mirrors the emotional one: chest-out live-band bangers escalate into a full horn-section-and-choir roar at peak delusion, then the band walks out one section at a time — by Track 9 the brass is down to a single muted trumpet, and Track 10 is one piano.
Themes:
- Hustle culture as religion — grind-as-gospel, self-optimization as salvation
- Personal brand as identity replacement — the man erased by the brand
- Toxic positivity and “we’re a family here” as exploitation
- The engagement-dopamine loop — posting for reach as worship
- Cruelty reframed as vulnerability — do the harm, post the tears, collect the reach
- Grief as raw material — funerals, divorces and diagnoses converted into content and courses
- The emptiness under the performance — who are you when the grind stops
Motifs & Threads
Lyrical Motifs
| Motif | Description | First Appears | Recurrences |
|---|---|---|---|
| “Rise and grind” | The mantra/gospel; his call to prayer | Track 01 | Track 07 (apex, triumphant), Track 10 (whispered, hollow) |
| “Humbled and honored” | The signature humblebrag phrase | Track 02 | Track 08 (spinning the failure), Track 10 (finally sincere, and it hurts) |
| “Agree?” | The needy engagement-bait tag — begging the feed to confirm he exists | Track 02 | Track 06 (worshipped as liturgy, “Agree? (Agree.)”), Track 08 (“the feed agrees”), Track 09 (typed into a dead feed, nobody does), Track 10 (resolved by finally not asking) |
| “Four fifty-nine” / the cold plunge | The morning ritual as holy discipline — the alarm he beats and the tub he climbs into | Track 01 (“Cold plunge in a cooler full of gas-station ice”) | Track 09 (same alarm, but “the plunge is just a tub” — a grown man shivering), Track 10 (the alarm goes off and he turns it off) |
| “Circle back” | Networking-speak as a way of never letting go | Track 03 | Track 07 (a power flex), Track 09 (nobody there to circle round) |
| “Let that sink in” | The guru’s most pompous tic | Track 04 | Track 10 (stripped of pomposity, lands on something true) |
| The green “Open to Work” banner | The badge of the crash | Track 09 | Track 10 (title of the closer) |
| “My kid” → “my daughter” | Deliberate vocabulary arc. Through the delusion (T1–T8) she is only ever “my kid” — a category, a scheduling conflict. From Track 09 she becomes “my daughter,” and stays that way through the closer. He starts naming her as a person at exactly the moment the brand stops working. | Track 01 (“my kid’s recital”) | Tracks 06, 07, 08 (still “kid”), Track 09 (first “daughter”), Track 10 (“I called my daughter up”) |
Character Threads
| Character/Voice | Arc Summary | Tracks |
|---|---|---|
| The Narrator (unnamed / “the brand”) | Normal guy → convert → guru → founder → flameout → one honest breath | 01–10 |
Thematic Progression
| Track | Theme Focus | Advances From | Sets Up |
|---|---|---|---|
| 01 | Conversion / the gospel | — | Establishes the mantra and the deadpan voice |
| 02 | Performing success | 01’s zeal | The humblebrag language he’ll spin failure with later |
| 03 | Networking / the slide | 02’s first taste of reach | “Circle back”; the platform-wide extraction script everyone runs on everyone |
| 04 | Self-importance | 03’s momentum | Full guru identity |
| 05 | Exploitation as love | 04’s authority | “Family” as the knife that twists in the crash |
| 06 | Worshipping the algorithm | 05’s platform | The dopamine dependency that makes the block unbearable |
| 07 | Apex delusion + grief-as-content | all prior | The top; everything after falls |
| 08 | Denial / the “pivot” | 07’s peak | Reframing collapse as strategy |
| 09 | The fall / the void | 08’s denial cracks | The green banner, isolation |
| 10 | The honest button | 09’s rock bottom | Ends the album; drops the bit |
Seeded during planning. Updated by lyric-writer as tracks are written.

Thought Leader Listen Sheet Music
Unpopular opinion, I am basically always right Let that sink in slowly, let it sink in overnight I fired a single mother when she asked me for a raise Then I posted how it hurt me, went viral, got a raise Here’s a thread on how I’m thinking while the rest of you’re asleep Ten ways to be a genius, number six will make you weep I don’t crack a book, I just extract the actionable frame I skimmed one Stoic quote and now old Marcus knows my name
Thought leader, I don’t follow the trend, I am the trend Thought leader, every story that I tell did not happen, but it ends With a lesson, with a takeaway, a carousel of me Slide one is the hook, and slide ten is hire me Thought leader
I woke up, I chose grit, most won’t, that’s it No mentor ever gave me anything, so I invented one who said The best investment’s you, so I spent my kid’s college bread I speak at my own summit to a mirror and a mic Standing ovation, table for one, and I like, and I like My kid drew a picture of a dad who wasn’t there I captioned it priorities, it performed, I don’t care

The Algorithm Listen Sheet Music
I wake and check the numbers like a monk who found his god Four hundred likes in twenty minutes, praise be, that ain’t odd The Algorithm giveth and the Algorithm takes I posted something honest once, it sank, I don’t make mistakes Now I only post at eight a.m. sharp like it’s the law Hook in the very first line, hire me in the last, no flaw Engagement is my oxygen, a comment is a kiss My kid says dad, come watch this, hold on, kiddo, I’m on this
Kneel down, kneel down Feed the feed, feed the feed
The Algorithm, kneel down Feed the Algorithm, right now I don’t know who I am without the notification glow I am whatever performs, I am the show, let the numbers tell me so Agree? Agree. The Algorithm
Refresh, refresh, refresh, I’m the rat that hits the lever Little hits of dopamine, so clever, so clever, so clever Then that dip, my reach is down, and somebody stole my sound A bigger fish reposted my own format, now I drown Delete it if it flops inside the hour, that’s the code Repost it when it’s popping, be a mirror, be a mold I outsourced my whole worth to a slot machine of hearts And it pays in little pieces, just enough to keep the parts
The Algorithm, kneel down Feed the Algorithm, right now I don’t know who I am without the notification glow I am whatever performs, I am the show, let the numbers tell me so Agree? Agree. The Algorithm
If a thought falls in a feed and nobody hits a heart Did I even have it? Am I even here? Where’s the chart? Tell me I exist, just tap it once, I’ll feel it in my chest And a billion of us asking the same question, unaddressed
Kneel down Kneel down Let the numbers tell me so
Crushing It Listen Sheet Music
Every single day I’m crushing it, I crush before I chew I corner the whole market till the market’s asking who I’m closing, always closing, A B C, I never stop I go so hard on follow-through I follow up my follow-up Quarter after quarter till the whole fourth quarter shakes They told me under-promise, I don’t promise, I just take I disrupt, I scale, I synergize, I leap I looked the paradigm dead in the eye and put it right to sleep
Crushing it, crushing it No cap on the ceiling, watch me touch it, watch me push it Every hour on the hour I am adding to my worth Closing every deal until they’re begging me to circle back for more Crushing it
I got seven side hustles and a mattress stuffed with leads I monetized my sleeping, now I’m dealing in guarantees My grandmother passed on Tuesday, and I posted at the wake Five things that her funeral taught me about closing, what a take A guy I barely know went through a brutal public split He posted it as lessons learned, got a book deal out of it So I’m mining every funeral for a takeaway souvenir There is nothing in a human life I cannot volunteer
Crushing it, crushing it No cap on the ceiling, watch me touch it, watch me push it Every hour on the hour I am adding to my worth Closing every deal until they’re begging me to circle back for more Crushing it
My kid quit asking when I’m home, just says dad, do your thing I said that’s my girl, self-sufficient, man, I’m basically a king Top of the mountain, ain’t no higher I can go So I built a taller mountain just to have a mountain show I’m untouchable, unstoppable, I simply cannot lose Ain’t nothing after this, I am the news
Crushing it Crushing it
Pivot Listen Sheet Music
We didn’t lose the funding, we unlocked a leaner phase Ran clean out of runway, so we’re taxiing for days The product didn’t work, so now the product is a course Teaching you to build the thing that just destroyed me at the source Revenue is down, but down is up if you invert My co-founder just left, he’s pursuing being far from hurt We’re not shutting the doors, we’re just sunsetting, behold Same sinking ship, new deck chairs, and a course I sold
Pivot, pivot It’s not a failure, we just spin it, call it pivot Rock bottom is a launchpad if you brand the fall just right I’ll sell you the ladder that I’m falling off tonight Pivot
Enroll now in my webinar, From Broke to Woke to Broke It’s nine ninety-nine a month to learn the lessons of my choke I pivoted to coaching ‘cause the coaching has no floor When the business has no customers, the customers are yours I’m humbled and honored to announce that we have failed But failure is a feature and I’ve already got it scaled And everybody’s failing up, look around, the feed agrees Every failure’s got a course now, every course has got a fee
Pivot, pivot It’s not a failure, we just spin it, call it pivot Rock bottom is a launchpad if you brand the fall just right I’ll sell you the ladder that I’m falling off tonight Pivot
Pivot to a podcast, pivot to a book, pivot to a stage Pivot to a founder-story, monetize the rage I missed so many weekends that my kid don’t know my face Pivot, pivot, pivot till there’s nothing left to chase
It’s a pivot It’s a pivot
Blocked Listen Sheet Music
My inbox used to flood, now it’s tumbleweeds and dust The mentees blocked the mentor, oh, the irony, the bust I circle back, but nobody is there to circle round Left on red by the whole entire network that I swore I’d found The family that I built just changed the locks and changed my name Turns out we’re a family ends the second there’s no game But I’m still posting daily to a feed that scrolls right past Day one of my comeback, hashtag blessed, hashtag unfazed
Blocked, blocked Muted and unfollowed, but the hustle never stopped I put the green frame on, Open to Work, it’s fine Just pivoting to consultant, got a network of the blind Blocked
I comment on my own posts from a burner just to talk Reply Great insight to myself, then I like it, then I walk I still wake at four fifty-nine, but the plunge is just a tub Cold water, a grown man shivering, a phone with no love My ex’s new guy is great, my daughter calls him safe But rejection is redirection, so I’m crushing it, okay I’m not desperate, I’m available for the right fit I typed Agree, nobody did, green banner, that’s it
Blocked, blocked Muted and unfollowed, but the hustle never stopped I put the green frame on, Open to Work, it’s fine Just pivoting to consultant, got a network of the blind Blocked
Used to be crushing it, now it’s crushing the other way Same alarm, same cold plunge, but there’s nothing left to say Still I post it, still I brand it, still I smile at nobody Who am I if I stop, don’t answer that, let’s see day forty
Open to work Open to work Hashtag blessed
Open To Work Listen Sheet Music
The alarm goes off at four fifty-nine I turn it off, I don’t get up this time There’s no one in the inbox, no one on the call The green frame says Open to Work, that’s honest, after all I built a brand so loud I couldn’t hear the guy inside I optimized my whole life till there was no life left to optimize I don’t know who I am if I’m not climbing something steep I think I miss my friends, I think I traded them for reach
And I’m humbled, and honored, and I mean it now, for real No thread, no takeaway, no course to make you feel Just a guy who forgot his own name behind the brand Open to work, open, maybe, to just being a man
I logged off for a day and the world did not collapse The sun came up without me grinding through the gaps I called my daughter up and asked her out to lunch She said okay, if you’re not on your phone the whole bunch So I left it in the car, we got fries, we didn’t talk shop I asked about her life, and for once I let the closing stop I didn’t ask if she agreed, I just asked how she’d been That’s the most I’ve closed all year, let that sink in
Rise and grind Or maybe just rise Four fifty-nine
